NASA “Solar Observatory” Sent 100 Millionth Image

SDO 100 millionth image

Solar Dynamics Observatory began its work on the study of the solar interior in 2010. Then NASA reported that scientists have very high hopes for the station. Five years later, it is safe to say that all hopes were fulfilled with interest.

The other day the station sent a 100-millionth image of our luminary to Earth. The picture was taken on January 19th. The instrument with which the image was taken, the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly, is very well described , these are “four telescopes working in parallel to obtain 8 images of the Sun in a different wavelength range. We get a picture every 12 seconds. ”

Every day, the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) generates about 1.5 terabytes of data, and half the data is delivered to the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly. These are approximately 57,600 images every day.

The 100 millionth image is impressive, like all the other shots. The picture shows the waves in the solar atmosphere. The Solar Observatory helps scientists understand how the activity of the Sun changes, as well as identify the causes of such changes. The study of the sun continues!
