A sedentary lifestyle increases the risks of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and premature death, despite regular exercise. This is the disappointing conclusion reached by
researchers from Toronto , carefully analyzing the results of 41 studies.
David Alter, head of the Toronto Institute of Rehabilitation Research Group, said: “The average person spends more than half of the day motionless — sitting at a TV or computer. According to the results of our study, even healthy regular exercise alone is not sufficient to reduce the risks. ”
Different computer specialists have a different attitude to the problem of a sedentary lifestyle. Someone buys expensive
“ergonomic” chairs , someone promotes
standing jobs , some even
walking ones , someone (including me) exchanged office chair for a
fitball .

According to the study, sedentary workers have a 15–20% increase in the risk of dying from any causes, the risk of heart disease and cancer - and a scary 90% increase in the risk of type 2 diabetes. It turns out that it is not enough to do the exercises an hour a day, and after that the remaining time to sit on the priest exactly with a sense of accomplishment. You must regularly get up and knead the muscles, periodically spending in the standing position for 15-20 minutes.
Other scientists who have written a review of this work point out that one cannot limit oneself to physical exercise alone. To maintain good health, you need to eat properly and have enough time to sleep.
