A funny case is the hacking of servers of the hacker group Lizard Squad. It was this group that disrupted the normal operation of the Microsoft Xbox Live and Sony PlayStation Network services by launching a powerful DDoS attack. Now, as it turned out, the unfortunate hackers themselves
were the victims of other intruders .
The fact is that this group has created its own service Lizard Stresser, which allows carrying out DDoS-attacks on the order of customers. Client data was stored in open (unencrypted) form on the servers of this service. As a result, third-party hackers “took away” the database with data from 14,241 accounts.
At the same time, many accounts still had money meant for the Lizard Squad. There were several hundreds of such “cash” accounts, and the funds were kept in Bitcoin cryptocurrency. The dollar equivalent in the accounts of "customers" was kept about 11 thousand US dollars.

It is worth recalling that the attack on the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network servers was held on December 25, 2014. Then the serviceability of the services was disrupted, and the specialists were able to restore everything only after two days. After the hacking, members of the Lizard Squad team reported that the purpose of the “action” is to demonstrate the inefficient spending of funds by companies, plus a demonstration of insufficient quality services for companies with their own services.
Not so long ago, the police arrested
one of the members of the Lizard Squad team , and several more were arrested.
