New Microsoft Patent - Self-Muting Smartphones

Resource theNextWeb announces a new patent received by Microsoft this week. The patent, filed back in 2013, is related to the automation of the behavior of smartphones in public places - for example, in cinemas. As planned by the company, where silence is required, future smartphones should automatically adjust the brightness and information content of the screen, as well as mute the sounds, going into a "quiet" mode of operation.

The patent states that even if a person has not forgotten to turn off the sound of his device, he can use it, for example, during a film show to find out the time, and the bright light from the screen will distract other visitors. Automatic adjustment can be triggered by the presence of special “beacons” installed in a public place, by analyzing the calendar of meetings, where visiting a cinema at a specific time can be indicated, or by using other sensors of the device (for example, a light sensor).

From the moment mobile phones, and then smart phones, have become commonplace, the problem of their response in situations where they have to be switched to quiet mode, so as not to distract other people (conferences, meetings, lessons, going to the theater, cinema) has not been solved. other events). Companies develop and implement “mobile etiquette” for their meetings and meetings, cinema owners convincingly ask visitors to turn off their mobile devices or put them into quiet mode, but these attempts are met with insufficient responsibility of visitors. If you cannot install GSM jammers in a public place for security reasons, and you cannot rely on phone owners, we can only expect smart behavior.
