While Ilon Mask is announcing new projects, for example, Hyperloop, his other projects are becoming more and more real. One of such projects, the Battery Gig Factory, has moved from the contracting stage to the implementation stage.

Now Tesla is preparing to create a working platform of the factory, with the erection of metal structures. Maximum performance is planned to be achieved in 2020, with the creation of 500 thousand batteries annually. At the same time, the project to create a factory is not just expensive, but very expensive.

The total cost of the project is approximately $ 5 billion . At the same time, only 2 billion will be provided by Tesla itself, the rest is planned to be received as investments from partners and subsidies from the government.

The creation of the factory has already begun, and only the first phase of the creation of metal structures will cost $ 15 million. Work on this phase, which began in December, should be completed by June. During the work, about 107037 meters of cubic soil should be removed to create a construction site, plus another 152910 cubic meters of soil to create a reservoir of local runoff. Estimated BuildZoom for these works will need 200 trucks, which will work every day for 4 months.

The first batteries will come off the factory assembly line in 2017, but production will not reach its full capacity by 2020. Up to this point a lot of work will have to be done.

It has already been announced that the main partner of Tesla in this project, in addition to state authorities, will be Panasonic. The company will be responsible for the equipment used to manufacture the battery cells. Tesla will build the entire factory, including infrastructure networks, and will collect batteries from Panasonic-created cells.
