Falcon 9 first stage hard landing shots on a floating platform

Maskom has just published footage from a video camera installed on a floating platform used as a platform for landing the first stage of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle.



As Mask had previously reported, the destruction of the first stage during landing was due to the failure of the hydraulic lattice steering wheels due to the resulting hydraulic fluid in the system.

In the first two published frames, the stage tries to equalize due to the operation of the engines, but this fails, then landing at an angle of about 45 degrees. The blow breaks down the landing pillars and breaks up the compartment with rocket engines, the remaining fuel is ignited and an explosion occurs, leading to the complete destruction of the stage. As, again, previously reported, the floating platform received no fatal damage and requires repair of the deck.

The next landing attempt will be very soon ( January 29 ), this time the fluids will fill up with much more, so that "at least it will explode for some other reason."
