Today we continue the cycle of publications about the GRE test . Recall that in the last article it was about what the GRE test is. This article is devoted directly to the structure of the exam.
GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a universal test that determines a candidate’s ability to complete a master’s degree or to take part in doctoral programs in high schools in the United States of America. It was created in order to compare the level of knowledge and qualifications of applicants according to uniform standards.

Test assignments are designed to determine the overall level of preparation of the applicant. Orientation of tasks - find out what skills are acquired during the entire period of previous training.
The GRE test can be taken both on a computer and in printed form:

Computer-based GRE Test - for putting on the computer. Held in certified centers, which are located in one hundred and sixty countries of the world. The testing schedule is for the whole year. The test duration is three hours and forty five minutes.

Paper-Based GRE Test - writing a test by hand. It is held where there is no possibility to organize delivery on the computer. You can pass it only three times a year on a special schedule. Runtime - three and a half hours.
Test structure
Computer and written testing consists of the following sections:

Verbal Reasoning - a language section that assesses the ability of an applicant to analyze a proposed text, to find the interdependence of parts of the text, its individual sentences, the correlation of word combinations and words in a sentence.
In the Verbal section, skills in understanding written text and argumentation are assessed. Here you will be offered three types of tasks:
- Reading Comprehension, in which you have to draw conclusions, reason on the basis of incomplete data, define the goals and logic of the author, understand different meanings of the word (direct, figurative or author);
- Text Completion, here it is necessary to separate the main from the particular, summarize the text and analyze its structure;
- Sentence Equivalence, where you need to understand the meanings of words, sentences and the entire text, as well as trace the links between words and ideas.
This level consists of two parts, each with twenty questions. Half an hour is granted for its implementation.

Quantitative Reasoning - the mathematical part, during the passage of which manifest the skills of solving problems, analyzing the data provided, the ability to make calculations. This section focuses on data interpretation. Here are tested the ability to understand and analyze numerical information, solve problems based on mathematical models. Successful completion of the mathematical section requires knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability theory and statistics.
All who give it is allowed to make calculations on a calculator: in the computer format of the test it pops up on the screen, and if you pass the exam on paper, it will be provided in the test center.
Consists of two sections, with 20 tasks in each. Runtime - half an hour.

Analytical Writing - an analytical letter. This section assesses skills for formulating complex ideas and argumentation, as well as proficiency in English. Candidates need to write two sample essays: Analysis of an Issue and Analysis of an Argument.
