2015 promises to be hot in the field of virtual reality devices. Such foreign companies as Oculus Rift, Sony, AntVR, 3DHead, GameFace and a number of others are already in full development of helmet prototypes, and some of them even plan sales in the near future. However, given the current dollar rate, for many, the price of such devices in rubles will most likely be quite high.
In Russia, affairs in this rather promising area also do not stand still. At the moment there are already several registered projects that are engaged in research and projects of virtual reality devices. For example, just recently, a developer from Siberia announced his virtual reality helmet prototype with the code name VRD v.0.1 and a screen resolution of 1920x1080, which corresponds to the resolution of Oculus Rift DK2 and its equivalent.

A little background.
')
The initial version of the prototype helmet had a screen of 1280x1024 and a homemade case:

This helmet was assembled from improvised means and available components with a total cost of about $ 80.
This version already uses a 1080p screen and head tracking based on freetrack technology:

Given the current shortcomings of the prototype, the author of the project has plans for the next versions to use a head tracking system based on a gyroscope and a magnetometer compatible with the Oculus Rift, as well as a more modern 1440p screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
It should be noted that this project and the Internet resource dedicated to accessible virtual reality itself is being developed by just one person.
According to the developer, the project began as a hobby, but at the moment, if we speak the language of the industry, there is every reason to consider it a hardware start-up.
The final cost of a VRD helmet should not exceed $ 250-300, which may be quite competitive and affordable for Russian fans of virtual reality technology.
