Exchange Bitstamp resumed work on new servers

After four days of inactivity, one of the largest Bitcoin exchanges Bitstamp reopened. The reason for closing was hacking , which took about 19,000 bitcoins with it (at the current rate - more than $ 5 million). As stated in a statement on the company's website, because of the hacking, it was decided to change the infrastructure, as a result of which the servers moved to the Amazon Web Services “clouds”. Also introduced a new authentication system.

The company assures that none of their users will lose their funds, all obligations will be fulfilled, the exchange switched to a new multi-sig security system, and as an excuse for a whole week, all transactions will take place without commission. Lost bitcoins are only a small part of the total storage of funds, the rest of the funds are securely protected and stored in a “cold” state.

The situation compares favorably with the sensational collapse, bankruptcy and the closure of the largest at that time exchange MtGox, when bitcoins leaked in an unknown direction for almost half a billion dollars at the then exchange rate.

Meanwhile, the course of bitcoins continues to gradually decline. From the level of $ 370 at the beginning of December 2014, it has already dropped to $ 270.
