Piracy leaked to jail

Universal Music filed a lawsuit against a company that sells goods to prisoners in US prisons. Among such goods are pirated music collections on CD.

In its lawsuit against the Keefe Group, which has stores for US prisoners, Universal Music notes : “These counterfeit products include popular and valuable sound recordings and musical compositions belonging to the plaintiffs. The discs contain performances by such legendary performers as James Brown, Eminem, Jackson Five, LL Cool J, Marvin Gay, and others. The defendant on the site boasts that his company "was created to destroy smuggling," while selling illegal copies of recordings and musical compositions, making a profit. "

The Keefe Group sells hygiene kits, food, clothing, electronics, and music media that family members and friends of prisoners can send to a correctional facility.

The lawsuit claims are: 150,000 US dollars for each counterfeit music track.

Earlier in 2014, the Canadian industrial group Skinny Puppy tried to protect its rights violated by a US prison. A guard from Guantanamo, who wished to remain anonymous, informed a member of the group about torture using their compositions.

On Kevin Newman Live, Kevin Key, keyboardist for Skinny Puppy, announced the reasons for the suit to the US Department of Defense:
We sent them the bill for our music services because they used music without our permission as a real weapon against someone.
