Two months ago, Microsoft began a closed beta test of three MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for Android tablets. Invites were distributed through the
community in Google Plus .
Now
the testing program has been expanded , and free applications can be downloaded by anyone from the Google Play catalog, without recording to the queue and waiting.

These versions differ in interface and functionality.

Initially, mobile versions of MS Office were paid. To create and edit documents, paid Office 365 accounts were required. Last year, all the basic functions of MS Office became free. All you need is a regular Microsoft account. Well, meet the system requirements: Android 4.4+, the screen from 7 to 10.1 inches.
Probably, if a couple of years ago someone had said that Microsoft would provide free access to its main commercial product - an office application package, it would hardly be believed in such words. Nevertheless, the freemium model still provides for the possibility of income. If you have an Office 365 subscription, the user is provided with “advanced” features, such as custom charts and tables, and various document design options.
By the way, we are working on the next version of Office 16, which we are going to present in the second half of 2015. Interestingly, it is created on the same code base as Office for Android.
