Palm brand reborn: from HP to Alcatel

The legendary brand Palm , under which the first handheld computers were sold, shows signs of life. Shortly after the purchase of this brand by Hewlett-Packard in 2010, it disappeared from radar. Now the situation is changing. Fans of the brand from the WebOS Nation website noticed that the palm.com site, which had previously redirected everyone to www.hpwebos.com/us , suddenly began to redirect visitors to the domain mynewpalm.com . On this site there is only one page with animation, on which, besides the Palm logo, there are the inscriptions “Coming soon” and the slogan “Smart move.”.

Shortly after this discovery, an interesting document was found, in which, although the unknown shell company Wide Progress Global Limited is mentioned, it is signed by a famous person - Nicholas Zibella. If we take into account that Zibell occupies a leading position in the Alcatel One Touch company, and “smart move” is its slogan - everything falls into place. Apparently, Alcatel One Touch is going to revive the old brand.

Alcatel is a brand for smartphones from the Chinese company TCL Corporation, which is on the 25th place in terms of consumer electronics production, and on the third - in the production of TVs, after Samsung and LG. It is not yet clear what the company will do with the Palm brand - perhaps we should expect it to enter the American market, for which an old but well-known brand is better suited than a new one that needs to be advertised. While the lineup of Alcatel smartphones consists of unremarkable android devices.

The first handheld computer, or more precisely, the PDA, the “personal digital assistant” from Palm, called Pilot, appeared in 1996 (then Palm Computing was a division of US Robotics). The company has produced interesting devices for more than 10 years, from handheld computers based on PalmOS to smartphones on webOS , but in the end lost the technology race. In 2010, the brand was bought by Hewlett-Packard for $ 1.2 billion, after which HP stopped both webOS devices and brand support.
