RBC media holding agreed to sell Smotri.com video hosting to a group of private investors, TASS news agency
reports with reference to MediaMir general director Alexander Kononenko (he manages non-business projects of RBC). Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Smotri.com is a free service for uploading, storing and viewing video files.
Alexander Kononenko commented that the holding is now pursuing a focused policy on the sale of entertainment assets in order to concentrate on business-oriented resources. This strategy has been implemented since July 2014 (by coincidence, it was during this period that the acute phase of the crisis began, and many enterprises faced a shortage of working capital).

RBC decided to get rid of several non-core assets, including Loveplanet, Tweedy, etc.
“We are pleased that we are selling the project to investors who are interested in the project development and fruitful work with the current team. For our part, we will help in the technological migration of the project to the new owner without degrading the quality of service, ”said Kononenko. He did not name who specifically made Smotri.com a buyer.
The head of the internal communications direction of the media holding, Zlata Nikolayev,
added that video hosting purchasers are interested in purchasing a pool of entertainment projects for their further development.
Negotiations on the sale of Smotri.com have been going on since August 2013. The transaction must be closed within a few days. The team, brand, current developments, as well as server support are transferred to the new owner.
According to Smotri.com statistics, the number of registered users is 9 million.
