Judge struck out a wording that gives the chimpanzee a human right to habeas corpus.

The story of endowing chimpanzees with Hercules and Leo from the University of New York at Stony Brook has been continued. The judge changed her decision, deleting the wording "habeas corpus" - the principle that requires the legality of the procedure of detention and detention, acting only on a person.

The Act of 1679, the Habeas Corpus Act, passed by the Parliament of England, defines the rights of arrest and trial of the accused. Within a certain number of days after receiving the “habeas corpus” order, the defendant must be brought to court. This act is a legal justification for the presumption of unlawful detention, this principle has been in effect since the seventeenth century in American law.

Judge Barbara Jaffe, who recently decided to distribute habeas corpus on Hercules and Leo's chimpanzees, changed the decision and struck out the wording. The following hearings are scheduled for May 6, and representatives from the Nonhuman Rights Project and the University of Stony Brook will participate in them.

The university does not comment on the trial and is waiting for the final consideration of the case by the court.
