For supersonic car Bloodhound developed composite panels to protect the body

Designing a car for speed records requires a balance between engine power, body weight, and driver and vehicle protection. At a speed of 1,609 kilometers per hour, a small pebble can pierce an ordinary body through, so the team is faced with the issue of producing composite panels to protect the cockpit.

The Bloodhound is equipped with three engines . These are the Nammo hybrid rocket engine, the Eurojet EJ200 jet engine used in the Eurofighter Typhoon multipurpose fighter, and the auxiliary power unit is the Jaguar V8 engine with 550 horsepower. The total thrust from the Nammo and EJ200 engines is 21 tons, equivalent to 135,000 horsepower, and the Jaguar internal combustion engine will pump fuel into engines at 40 liters per second and provide electrical and hydraulic power.

To protect the cockpit have developed lightweight fiberglass panels, which should absorb the energy of the projectile. The panels were tested, firing a projectile at them with a speed of 3,701 kilometers per hour. Another problem was solved, now Andy Green in August 2015 will have to accelerate to 1,149 kilometers per hour in South Africa. If this works out, then in 2016 the team will try to set a record of 1,609 kilometers per hour.

The first car to break the sound barrier was the Thrust SSC, equipped with two Rolls-Royce Spey turbojet engines from the F-4 Phantom fighter jets. The average speed after two runs was 1227,986 kilometers per hour.
