Card game about exploding kittens set a kickstarter fees record

A new fundraising record was set on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. Now her third profitable project is the Exploding Kittens card game. Instead of the $ 10,000 requested by the organizers, the game scored $ 8.7 million (while $ 3 million was raised in the first three days of the campaign). The project has supported more than 200 thousand people.

The success of the project is explained by the fact that Matthew Inman, the artist of the project The Oatmeal (Oatmeal), was one of its three creators. The project with a non-standard sense of humor offers comics, parodies of all sorts of online surveys and other entertainment. The unusual humor of the project was reflected in the visual design of the card game, and in its rules.

The players take turns drawing cards from the deck until one of them draws a card with an exploding kitten. A player who has drawn this card loses, unless its previous cards contain methods by which this fate can be avoided.

Campaign participants were offered various prizes: $ 20 for one deck, $ 35 for a deck with additional cards, $ 100 for two decks with authors' autographs and $ 500 for a deck with exclusive cards. The authors promise to deliver prizes in the summer of 2015.

In terms of profitability, this project was overtaken only by a heaped cooler bag and a Pebble smart watch.
