Tesla Develops Household Battery

Tesla Motors, which recently presented a report on its financial activities in 2014, announced a new battery for home use. According to the company, the system is not designed for placement in electric vehicles, but for use in homes and offices.

The developers claim that the battery is designed for use with solar panels, such a battery will store the energy generated by the photocells. In some regions, according to the authors of the project, such a hybrid system will completely eliminate external sources of energy, electricity supplied by energy companies. A new device will be presented in a month or two.

Ilon Mask also said that the overall design of the battery is ready, and within six months it is planned to start mass production of "home batteries". Tesla, in fact, already offers energy storage systems through SolarCity Corp., the company where Ilon Mask is the head of the board of directors, and is the largest shareholder. But these systems are mainly used by corporate clients.

A new development will be designed for individuals and households. According to Tesla management, it is households, private customers, that can become the most extensive sales market for such energy storage systems. This is especially true for regions with large amounts of solar energy and strong winds - for example, California. It has already been estimated that the total household demand for energy storage systems by 2020 could reach a value of 1.3 Gigawatts.

According to Mask, the battery will be flat and mounted on the wall. The battery will have a bi-directional inverter, and all this will be easy and seamlessly connect to the home electrical network.
