DTEK starts construction of the largest solar power station in Ukraine

DTEK will start building a 200 MW solar power plant near Nikopol (Dnipropetrovsk region).

The contract for the design and construction of the largest SES in Ukraine, the energy giant, signed with China Machinery Engineering Company (CMEC) at the round table “Chinese investments in the development of Ukraine’s energy industry”, organized by SilkLink, reports dtek.com .

The new solar power plant DTEK will be located on the territory of the spent quarry - a site not suitable for farming.

Nikopol SES will produce more than 280 million kWh per year - this will be enough to ensure the energy supply of 100 thousand households. The environmental effect of the operation of the solar station will consist in an annual reduction of emissions into the atmosphere by 300 thousand tons of CO2. In addition, the solar power plant will create new jobs and replenish local budgets with tens of millions [hryvnia - approx. translation.] tax deductions.

The Chinese company SMES , which is part of the Sinomach state-owned group of companies, whose portfolio of projects implemented in the power industry exceeds 4,300 MW , will become an investor and contractor for the construction of Nikopol SES.
The total investment of the project is 230 million euros.

According to Maxim Timchenko, General Director of DTEK, the construction of Nikopol SES - one of the biggest deals to attract funding for the renewable energy sector of Ukraine - will be a positive signal for other investors.

“SMES has built 4.3 GW of capacity, of which more than 600 MW falls on solar power,” he noted. “Such partnership can be a serious catalyst for the development of new Ukrainian energy.”

The Nikoplskaya solar power station will become the largest generating object of solar power engineering in Ukraine and will be one of the three largest in Europe, the attention of SMES board of directors Zhang Chun emphasized.

“We have firm intentions to implement a successful project for the citizens of Ukraine, who will create environmentally friendly generation for Ukraine to achieve energy independence,” he said.

According to the plan, the construction of Nikopol SES will begin in April and will be completed before the end of 2018.
