Yandex.Fotki closed

On March 7, 2018, Yandex announced the closure of the photo hosting site “Yandex. Photos” due to its low popularity. All photos will be transferred to Yandex.Disk, but links to photos will still work.

In addition, each user was given the same amount of space in the cloud as he had been occupied at Fotki on March 6th. This place is used for both photographs and other needs . But it will not be possible to upgrade your Yandex.Disk for any bonus amount for free. Photos uploaded after March 6 are not counted.

“Yandex. Photos were launched in 2007, more than ten years ago. Since then, new services and technologies have appeared. Now people share pictures mostly in social networks and prefer to keep them in the cloud - it is more convenient and easier. Say, you can automatically upload pictures to your Disk from your smartphone, but not to Photos. People gradually began to use the service less and less. Over the past six months, only five percent of those who have an account have entered the Photos. One hundred times more pictures are being downloaded to Disc now than to Photos. Therefore, we decided to transfer the entire photo archive to the cloud, ”the official statement says.

The company emphasizes that the photos will not be deleted, and in full safety they will be transferred to the “Poison”, where they can be edited, compose albums from them and share them with other people.

Already on the site "Yandex. Photos" appeared button "Move to Disk."

Everyone can use it before the forced transfer of images. After clicking on the button, it will no longer be possible to add new pictures to the “Photos” or edit old ones. The company will notify you when the move is complete.

All pictures (as well as comments to them and views) are transferred to a special folder on the “POISON”. Albums immediately move to a folder with albums with the same access settings (private or open).

Despite the pronounced dislike of Yandex for Google , the Russian company largely takes its cue from its American colleagues. Unfortunately, this also applies to the practice of periodic “cleansing” with the closure of services that it considers unpopular.
