Scientists have registered the transfer of information faster than the speed of light.

The splitting of the laser beam allowed us to set up an experiment on the transfer of information between "tangled" photons.

Researchers from the University of Geneva (University of Geneva), set up an experiment to register the coordination of "tangled" (Quantum entanglement) photons. “Confusion” is a quantum state that has no analogues in the classical macrocosm. Tangled particles remain “connected” even when they are scattered from each other at a considerable distance. This state was theoretically described as early as the 1930s and was repeatedly observed in experiments.

“Tangled” twin photons were generated by splitting a laser beam on a crystal at a science center in Geneva and were emitted via fiber in different directions - in the direction of two Swiss villages - Satigny and Jussy, 18 kilometers from the city.

When registering the state of a photon in one of the receivers (Satigny), the “tangled” photon emitted in the other direction (Jussi) changed its state “instantly”. The resulting speed of the coordinated reaction of the second photon exceeded the speed of light thousands of times. At the same time, there is no possibility of transmitting information through classical channels from a photon to Satigny to a photon in Jussi.

The experiment does not contradict the theory of relativity, since the coordinated photon reaction, which is expressed, for example, in a change in the spin or polarization of a particle, does not result in mass or energy transfer, but only information is transmitted.

But, nevertheless, the experiment made a strong impression on the scientific community. According to Nature, a theorist from Imperial College London (Imperial College London) Terence Rudolph said that the experiment shows that quantum mechanics deals with things that do not quite fit into our understanding of space-time.

Research director Nicolas Gisin said: "To be honest, I don’t think we can clearly explain the observed phenomenon today." But this phenomenon exists, and experimenters hope for the help of theorists.
