In line with this, Intel has released a series of processors E3-1500 v5, based on Intel Quick Sync and focused on video streaming. These are quad-core Skylake CPUs that support Iris Pro graphics with 72 compute units and enhanced 128 MB built-in DRAM.

These processors promise to significantly improve performance compared to the previous generation Broadwell at 65 watts. For HEVC, with a threshold of up to 45 W, two streams recoding HEVC into HEVC 4K30.
Especially for users who want to increase the density of calculations, Visual Compute Accelerator maps have been developed. They can be added to any system similar to a GPU or MIC, making the platform independent. The use of such cards is typical for platforms with E5 / E7.
New processors E3-1500 v5 are aimed at high density calculations. With Intel Quick Sync integrated in the processor, this is a HEVC streaming solution with new features.
At the top of the stack are the E5 and E7 family processors. They use multiple processors in a single system and focus exclusively on high quality video. They can be bundled with Visual Compute Accelerators (when necessary).
The rest of the products in question are concentrated around virtualization. When a virtual server uses the same hardware between several clients / users, the method of sharing CPU time is used. Depending on the capabilities of the hypervisor and basic equipment, there are restrictions on the use of software by all users simultaneously. Generation Skylake plus Iris Pro, based on the Xeon E3-1500 v5, supports the new Graphics Virtualization Technology (GVT) under Citrix XenServer 7.0.
Xeons with Iris Pro support two GVT modes: GVT-a and GVT-d. The first allows API virtualization in such a way that users can take advantage of the same software package on the same hardware. The mode is popular with companies using a specific application or web service when connecting different clients to the same one.

As a result, one user will, in fact, own 100% of the processor time. In the case of immediate processing of power requests, specific virtual machines can raise the priority of the hypervisor. The new processors have a lot of other features. First of all, it concerns Skylake with the new Speed Shift feature. It allows the OS level driver to return the dynamic frequency / voltage scaling on the CPU, which provides a faster change in frequency (1-3 ms, rather than 30-100 ms) for instant response and energy saving. When using processors as conventional CPUs without virtualization, they provide support for Quick Sync under Windows 10. However, in a virtual environment, Speed Shift is not supported (even if it is supported by the operating system in each virtual machine). It seems that Speed Shift requires some additional hardware or software to work this instance.

Intel is devoting a lot of effort to Iris Pro technology, a strategy for bundling embedded DRAM with CPU cores. Apparently, the Xeon E3-1500 line is configured in the context of eDRAM and Iris Pro.
