Rambler capitulates from the search engine market

By mid-2008, the Rambler search engine was hopelessly behind Yandex and missed foreigners — Google.

According to Vladimir Dolgov (head of Google in Russia), when Google came to the Russian market, they had 6-8% of requests, now the share of Google requests in Russia is 30%, Dolgov boasts.

Soon everyone will be able to see on Rambler a search line from Google. I also recall that Mail.Ru in its time also realized that the search was not their strong point and kept the search from Yandex and concentrated on the development of communication services.

The same path can expect Rambler. According to Akrkadiy Moreynis (the owner of Price.ru, which was later sold to Rambler): But if you bury Rambler, it makes sense only because we will see a new portal in the fall.

Moreinis believes that the portal is now closed:

Everyone rushed to buy cars? The closed portal gets the “Cars” page and generates content for this page itself. Everybody got into social networks? Let's make our own.
Opened also gets the page "Cars", but does not hire the editors, and places on it links to sites about cars.

The most striking example of the new strategy, according to Moreynis, is the Rambler.Friends service. This is a kind of mixture of a blog and a social network. But an unusual blog and an unusual network. As a rule, a blogging service is a closed project in which, for example, only registered users can be enrolled as friends. Rambler has a different story. A user can register with “Friends” and collect on his page, say, a LiveJournal blog and include LiveInternet.ru users as “friends”, and also add photos on Flickr, video files from RuTube, letters from Mail.ru and Gmail.com.

New Rambler is scheduled to see in the fall of 2008.

Thus, only 2 strong competitors remained in the search market in Russia: Yandex and Google.
