According to the Hollywood Reporter , Chinese medi-magnate Bruno Wu [Bruno Wu] and American producer Lawrence Larry Kazanov [Lawrence Kasanoff] will shoot a science fiction feature film based on the game Tetris in China. The project will be the first for their joint venture company, Threshold Global Studios. Filming will begin next year.

It’s hard to imagine which movie can be made based on this famous game. Cautious optimism can only be suggested by the fact that Kazanov is far from being a novice in filmmaking, and in his portfolio, which has been running since 1987, you can see films such as Mortal Kombat and True False. In the 2010s, he produced several animated television projects for LEGO, in connection with which, perhaps, he had the idea to make a film on the game.

For the first time, the intention to make a movie based on "Tetris" was announced in 2014. Then the company Casanova Threshold Entertainment has agreed on the rights to film with the Tetris Company. The film's budget will be $ 80 million and will, according to the producer, be an “epic sci-fi thriller”. At the 69th Cannes Film Festival this week, the producer is just meeting with agents for a new film.

The company’s statement says: “Our team has worked with The Tetris Company for over a year, and at the same time as the founding of Threshold Global Studios, we provided funding for the project and wrote the story. Kazanov and Wu will be together producing the film. ” While the details of the story are unknown and how a glass and figurines consisting of four cells will fit into a fantastic thriller.

Bruno Wu is the founder, vice president and general director of Sun Seven Stars Entertainment & Media Group Limited, China's largest media and investment company. Threshold Global Studios is the result of a partnership between the Threshold Entertainment Group and Seven Star Works.

The game "Tetris" is the brainchild of the Soviet programmer Alexey Pazhitnov. An employee of the Computing Center of the USSR Academy of Sciences wrote games for a hardware test. The first version was released on June 6, 1984. Many companies produced their versions of Tetris - both licensed and without the necessary rights. A total of about half a billion copies of the Tetris were sold in various forms.
