BioQuark company will try to restore the brain of the dead people connected to the life support system

The British The Telegraph reports an experiment that the American biotechnology company BioQuark intends to deliver - the company's specialists, having secured official permission from US regulators, are looking for 20 volunteers with a confirmed state of brain death, but still connected to the life support system. The purpose of the experiment is to inject stem cells, synthetic BQ-A protein and stimulate the nervous tissue with laser pulses to try to restore brain function and bring people out of the vegetative state.

The experiment, officially called The ReAnima Project, is divided into several stages, the first of which involves the daily introduction of BQ-A protein into the spinal cord of a patient and the injection of stem cells every two weeks for at least six weeks. Everything will happen not in the United States, in the Indian city of Rudrapur. According to interviews by Ira Pastor, CEO of BioQuark, it’s hard to understand how his company achieved the right to medical experiments with people - do you already have any significant results of using BQ-A protein or is it just the initial stage of work. Also, the ethical question that will have to be resolved with relatives of people is avoided.

The United States has adopted an official document, The Uniform Determination of Death Act , developed by a number of organizations, such as the American Bar Association, the American Medical Association, the National Unified State Law Conference, and the Presidential Commission for the Study of Ethical Medical Issues. This document articulates the strict criteria for determining whether a person has died or not. According to him, the patient’s death is ascertained in the event of an irreversible cessation of blood circulation and respiration, or an irreversible cessation of the functioning of all parts of the human brain. All future participants of the BioQuark project were declared dead precisely according to the second criterion, and their blood circulation and breathing continues to be maintained by doctors artificially.

It is worth noting that the fact of human death, determined by the fact of brain death, is recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as well.
