As part of its Developer Forum starting on Monday, Intel will announce several new CPUs. Among them will be the first mobile processors with four cores, which will be released on 45 nm technology Core 2 Quad Q9100 and Core 2 Extreme QX9300, focused on working at 2.26 and 2.53 GHz, respectively. Processors will use a 1066 MHz bus and have a 12 MB second-level cache.
The quad-core CPUs for mobile systems, like their “desktop” counterparts, will consist of two physical crystals combined on a single substrate. The difference from the usual Yorkfield will be in the absence of a lid-heat diffuser and orientation to the installation in the 478-pin Socket P processor socket, traditionally used in mobile platforms.
