Habrachat

Probably, many people remember the times when the IRC protocol was at the peak of its popularity - the majority of the Internet at that time were computer students (not merchants and housewives), the network existed, by and large, for the “elect”. The chosen ones, by virtue of the well-known features of their way of life (days and sleepless nights at the computer), urgently needed the opportunity to socialize, to at least somehow compensate for the lack of real communication.

Yes, there were web chats, there were forums (ICQ does not count, talking about group communication), but the most advanced, in my opinion, was IRC.

Most of the audience of Habr, according to the data I know, is made up of just those who 10 years ago were called “chosen ones”, those whose main life is at the computer. Therefore, it is likely that the idea of harachata based on the IRC protocol has some prospects. So...

Without polls and long discussions, I dared to raise the IRC server on my powerful dedicated server. To log in use the following details:

')

irc.habrachat.ru:6667 (port 6668 for clients with support for UTF-8)

The common channel is #main. It is also not forbidden to create any of your own channels.

As a client, it is customary to use mIRC , I recommend KVIrc , it is multiplatform, and also introduces some additional features to IRC communication (for example, the possibility of using avatars). Details of customer settings are discussed in the comments.

Ps. In connection with the recent interruptions in the work of the Habr, hardly climbed to the wall. Chat at the time would be very relevant ...

UPD. Just now I remembered habrahabr@conference.jabber.ru - in fact, this is a matter of taste. I now prefer IRC. Let there be a choice :)
