Khronos Group barely had time
to announce the release of the OpenGL 3.0 specification, as NVIDIA released a beta version of drivers for its products that support this open cross-platform standard for accelerating 3D graphics.
The new drivers implement the OpenGL 3.0 API and the GLSL 1.30 shader programming language for Windows XP and Windows Vista for some products of the GeForce and Quadro families. With their help, developers can take advantage of the features described in the OpenGL 3.0 specification. The company expects to regularly release OpenGL 3.0 drivers as part of its development program.
The OpenGL specification gives software developers access to a wide range of hardware acceleration, 3D and 2D graphics functions, allowing the program to be used across platforms. OpenGL open standard is the most widely used software interface in the industry, supported by all major platforms, including Windows, Linux and Mac OS.
