Serious Sam shooter developers have posted the source code of the game

In connection with the anniversary of the release of the first-person shooter Serious Sam, which will be held in March 2016, the game developers from the Croatian company Croteam decided to release the full source code of the game . The code was specially prepared for the study, providing detailed comments.

The version of the engine, now available to the public , is officially called Serious Engine v1.10. To release the source code was prepared by one of the programmers Croteam, Vyacheslav Nikitenko. He told the following about it:

From a historical point of view, the Serious Engine is important both for Croteam and for me personally. Before starting to work with source codes, I made several mods for the game - and it was a great tool for learning. And today it is even better!

Of course, the Serious Engine v1.10 engine will not be able to provide you with up-to-date graphics, but it’s well commented out, it's easy to change, and there are a lot of user modifications on the Internet. With this version you can both create a game and just experiment.

The first episode of the game Serious Sam: The First Encounter was released March 23, 2001. In the story, the protagonist of the game was Sam Stone, better known as Serious Sam. He was sent to the past in order to find and destroy the evil alien Tyrant Mental and thereby save mankind from complete annihilation in the future, changing the course of history.

Serious Sam took the seventh place in the list of the ten most irresistible heroes of computer games on the site Machinima.com . The same site put Sam on the sixth line of the list of ten best time travelers . And according to Destructoid observer Jim Stirling, the hero is “the real king of spinal shooters .”



On the Absolute Games website, the editors rated the game 85 out of 100, the readers 81 out of 100. When choosing the best games of all times and peoples of 2013, the habrasoobshchestvo put the game in 54th place .
