Brazilian police interrogate Facebook Vice President

Brazilian federal police detained Facebook and Instagram Vice President in Latin America for repeatedly refusing to execute court orders in a drug trafficking case, namely, issue a correspondence of drug dealers through the WhatsApp service, writes Globo.

Diego Dzodan (Dego Dzodan) is now in custody in Sao Paulo and responding to questions from investigators, the police said in a statement .

"We are disappointed with such extreme and disproportionate measures when one of the leaders of Facebook is escorted to the police station in connection with a case involving the WhatsApp service, which operates separately from Facebook," said the commentary of the American company. “Facebook has always been and will be ready to answer any questions the Brazilian authorities have.”

In December 2015, a Brazilian court blocked the work of the WhatsApp service for about 12 hours for refusing to give the contents of the correspondence between drug dealers involved in a criminal case. The shutdown affected 100 million users. Mark Zuckerberg then commented that he was “stunned” by how one judge decides to punish all Brazilian citizens who use WhatsApp. Disabling the most popular messenger caused a strong reaction in social media.
