Remix OS, a multi-window Android OS for PC, from March 1 it will be even better

The Remix OS operating system is a customized version of Android that looks and works like a full-fledged operating system for a personal computer. It was first released in 2015, with minimal support for multiple devices. In January, the alpha version of Remix OS was released, the developers made it available to everyone by opening the possibility of booting the system from USB media.

Now the beta version of Remix OS is coming out, it will appear on March 1 of this year. Beta differs from alpha in several key improvements, features that have not been until now. The system developer is a Chinese startup Jide , founded by a former Google employee.

Regular updates without data loss

Up to now, updates have been made by installing a new version of the system, with the destruction of old data, including applications, settings, and everything else.

Now developers are adding a Windows-like update that will take place without losing data. Such updates you can download from the web and install without losing data. Approximately the same update scheme for Windows OS or Android.

Dual boot

The first versions of Remix OS were created in such a way as to boot from a USB drive. This allows you to work with the system without using your main hard drive, which is fraught with data loss.

However, flash drives are much less productive than hard drives or SSDs. Therefore, working with them as a boot disk is not so convenient. And the developers gave users the opportunity to install the OS on the hard disk, and work as with a normal OS.

In this case, the user will be able to switch between the two operating systems.

32-bit support

The advantage of the Android operating system is that its requirements are lower than those of modern versions of Windows and MacOS. Therefore, Remix OS can be tried on an old PC, and enjoy the fast system ... theoretically.

The fact is that the first versions of this operating system supported only 64-bit processors. This means that the old laptop with a 32-bit Remix OS processor is not supplied. But from March 1, everything will change - the beta version will work with both 32-bit and 64-bit processors.

So far, Remix OS is still a raw system, the developers hope that users will help to “roll back” it by finding bottlenecks. And if everything works out, it may well be that Remix OS can become a full-fledged OS, competing on equal terms with Windows.

Maybe the developers will achieve that they will be installed on mobile devices by their manufacturers, and when such a device is connected to a monitor, the user will receive a full-fledged personal computer with a full OS.

The alpha version (image of a 64-bit system weighing 700 MB) can be downloaded from the developers site . The image must be downloaded to a USB flash drive (at least 8 GB) and booted from the device. Of course, USB 3.0 is recommended, but everything will work with USB 2.0.
