The dog runs on a prosthetic front paw printed on a 3D printer

Derby was born with deformed front paws. The owners refused it and were going to give to the shelter, but the organization “Peace and Paws Dog Rescue” took the dog. Then Derby got on education to Tara Anderson, director of 3D Systems. Now, thanks to the printed on a 3D printer, Derby's paws can run and sit like any other dog.

In 2014, 3D Systems made the Derby dog prosthetic forepaws. Prior to that, the dog tried to use a two-wheeled device - not the most convenient thing. The first version of the prosthesis was not high, so the animal was in an unnatural posture - but then the dog could already run with them. But in this case, Derby was not afraid to fall to the side.

While the dog was using the first version of the prosthesis, the specialists came to the conclusion that you need to add your knees to the next version. Using selective laser sintering, they printed a second version of the prosthesis, with springy bends. Now Derby can actually run, almost like any other dog with four healthy legs.
