The “Galactic Zoo” program was opened more than a year ago and has already brought together almost 150,000 amateur astronomers around the world, who together are focused on finding and identifying galaxies for certain characteristics. Over the years, over 1 million galaxies have been classified, but just recently a teacher at a Dutch elementary school, Hanni van Arkel, made a truly amazing discovery.
In the vast expanses of the universe, van Arkel discovered an object that can safely be called a “cosmic ghost”. The discovery confused many astronomers, who at first could not understand what they were facing. Scientists believe that this is a new class of cosmic bodies, which is a kind of gaseous object with a hole in the middle, illuminated by the remnants of light from the neighboring galaxy IC 2497. The body is named after the discoverer - the Hanni object. ')
Research into the strange body continues, but the basic version is that the “Hanni object” is a small galaxy that acts as a nebula that reflects light from a bright quasar that flashed in the center of IC 2497 100 thousand years ago. In the near future it is planned to direct the Hubble telescope to a space ghost in order to study it better.
