Boston Dynamics taught robots to help each other

The company Boston Dynamics continues to improve the four-legged dog-like robots SpotMini new version. In the new video clip, the company showed how these robots collaborate with each other.

The video shows how the first robot approaches the door. Realizing his inability to open the door, he calls for the help of another such robot, but equipped with a manipulator arm. He approaches, opens the door and passes into the passage of the first robot.

We have seen robots open the doors by the handle before. In the end, this was one of the standard tasks at the Darpa Robotics Challenge. Although the task is quite difficult, and not everyone coped with it.

But perhaps this is the first time that such a well-coordinated work is demonstrated, when one robot opens the door for another and misses it. It can be imagined that groups of such robots will act together and carry out a common task, like special forces teams.

Boston Dynamics is now owned by the Japanese telecommunications and technology giant SoftBank. The company specializes in making robots that resemble real animals. They can run, jump and react to external stimuli.

Model SpotMini presented in June 2016 . Initially, the appearance of the robot resembled a giraffe with a head on a folding neck. A new version without a head came out in November 2017.

In the video with the presentation of the first version of SpotMini, the robot is presented as a useful home assistant: he walks around the house and down the street, climbs under the table, turns his torso in all directions, folds the dishes into the drawer, throws garbage in the trash can, independently gets up after a fall, climbs the stairs running trot.
