The results of a joint survey conducted by PayPal and Data Insight show that approximately 66% of Russian freelancers work with foreign clients. 14% of “self-employed professionals” deal exclusively with foreign orders. Moreover, such orders bring freelancers higher revenues than orders from local employers.
On average, a freelancer who works almost exclusively with foreign customers receives about 61 thousand rubles. per month,
according to RBC. But Russian customers pay a little less - 53 thousand rubles a month. The survey was conducted among 500 freelancers aged 14 and older, who performed certain jobs for Russian and / or foreign clients in the first half of the year.
“What is interesting, when working with foreign clients, income is higher, the fewer orders. Foreign customers are profitable when there is an opportunity to take rare, but large and expensive orders: as a rule, prices for such orders are higher, ”says Data Insight partner Fedor Virin, commenting on the situation.

The bulk of orders from foreign customers come from residents of the United States (54%) and the UK (22%). In addition, employers from Europe, India, China and Australia also place orders on the stock exchanges. Only 17% of respondents work exclusively with domestic customers. The reasons are poor knowledge of foreign languages, high competition and others.
According to the survey, a typical Russian freelancer is a person with a higher education, between the ages of 26 and 35, who has no family. The most common specialization among domestic freelancers is design and IT development.
