The second alpha version of the email client Thunderbird 3, developed under the code name Shredder, has been released.
Some innovations:
Go to the Gecko 1.9 platform, on the basis of which Firefox 3 is built;
Discontinued support for Windows 95/98 / Me platforms;
A new add-on manager, which can now be used to search, download, and select extensions that extend functionality. When you first open Tools> Add-ons, a list of recommended add-ons will be offered.
The address book supports reading data from the Mac OS X system address book;
A new means of sending notifications to developers in the event of a program crash;
Each message can be opened in the new tab (by default it is not active, you need to enable it in the settings);
More accurate search by message body, taking into account the language in which the letter is written (increasing search efficiency is one of the main areas of Thunderbird 3);
An improvement in the JavaScript engine has resulted in an increase in overall performance and a reduction in memory consumption;
On the Mac platform, the Thunderbird interface is now implemented using the Cocoa library;
On the add-ons site, there are versions of DOM Inspector and Venkman debugger with Thunderbird 3 alpha1 support;
The most anticipated innovation, the integration of the Lightning calendar-planner, will be implemented in future alpha versions.
