Partial lunar eclipse on August 16

People around the world will get the opportunity to see a partial lunar eclipse on August 16th. During a partial lunar eclipse, the Earth, the Moon and the Sun are located almost on a straight line in such a way that the Moon is on the opposite side of the Sun from the side of our planet and enters the cone of shadow cast by the Earth. A full lunar eclipse is said when the moon is completely covered with shadow, otherwise the eclipse is called partial.

A lunar eclipse can be observed on that half of the globe where the night will set in at the time of the onset of the phenomenon. It will be best seen from the territories of Africa, Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia, India and the Middle East. Over Western Europe and England, the Moon will rise already during the eclipse.

The moon enters the brightest part of the shadow at 19:23 UT, and at 20:36 the satellite of the Earth will fall into its darkest part. The peak of the eclipse will be at 22:10, when more than 80% of the surface of the moon will be in the darkest part of the shadow, and the remaining 20% in the lightest. Fully eclipse will end on August 17, at 00:57.
