Sun Microsystems has become the main sponsor of the Free Software Foundation, founded
by Richard Stallman, who is considered the ideologist of free software promotion.
“Both organizations have been advocating free software for more than two decades, although in different forms and with different goals,” wrote Simon Phipps, head of Open Source at Sun Microsystems, on his blog on this event.
Thus, Sun, like other sponsors of the Free Software Foundation, will provide financial assistance to free software supporters in exchange for the right to use its logo on its website and advise on the GNU GPL (General Public License).
