Ilon Mask at Tesla Motors presentation showed new solar roof panels to the public
Yesterday, the official website of Tesla Motors launched the announcement of a new product for private clients and business - Powerwall 2, a backup battery system for lithium-ion batteries.
The official presentation of the novelty took place tonight (Moscow time). Also, Ilon Musk, as part of the Solar City project, a business for the production and installation of solar panels, founded by him and his cousins in 2006, presented to the public Solar Solar panels or the Solar Roof. The presentation took place in Los Angeles under the Tesla brand in view of the upcoming merger of Solar City with Tesla Motors. ')
In contrast to the usual halls with queues and attempts of journalists to take a place closer to the stage as soon as possible, this time Tesla Motors event was held in the open air. And for this there were reasons. For Mask, a scene with a screen was assembled, and next to it was a demo object - a whole house equipped with new “Solar roof” panels.
The novelty differs from the usual solar batteries in that it is an element of the roof, without disturbing the composition of the building and its appearance. In fact, Tesla Motors, in conjunction with Solar City, created solar panels that successfully masquerade as roof tiles.
The roof of the house is entirely a large solar panel.

The panel consists of a solar battery and a color film, covered with a plate of tempered glass.
During the presentation, the whole house was shown equipped with a similar “roof”, in which, at first glance, nothing betrayed solar panels.
During the entire presentation, Mask emphasized that the new solar panels at first glance are insulated from the usual roof, which distinguishes them from other "green" solutions.
In addition, the new Tesla development, the Powerwall 2 energy storage and storage system, was also in place, by optimizing the design of which the company's engineers managed to significantly increase the capacity of the product. Its CEO Tesla Motors proposes to use in conjunction with a new roof for energy storage and the possibility of its effective use in the dark.
According to Mask, a roof of this kind built “from scratch” will be cheaper than building a classical roof and equipping it with solar panels. So far, no specific figures of the Solar Roof cost have been named.
