Tonight, at 3:00 am Moscow time, there was a presentation of Tesla Motors, at which the head of the company Ilon Mask presented a new function of all Tesla cars - a full autopilot.
“Unmanned vehicles will play a decisive role in improving vehicle safety and speeding up the world’s transition to the future. Full autonomy will allow Tesla cars to be significantly safer than vehicles under human control. We will be able to reduce the financial costs of transportation for car owners, as well as provide low-cost mobility on demand for those who refrain from purchasing vehicles, ”says the company's official blog . ')
“From now on, every Tesla car will have a full autopilot function,” Musk said during the presentation.

After the presentation, all the cars produced by the company (including the Model 3) will be equipped with the necessary equipment to support the work of the new autopilot.
The system is based on laser and IR sensors, which provide a 360-degree view. Improvements in the system make it possible to analyze the situation around the car at a distance of up to 250 meters, which, according to the manufacturer, is almost twice as large as the previous autopilots on the market.
The on-board computer equipment was also updated and the system based on the neural network was developed, which is responsible for the recognition of objects (cars, pedestrians, obstacles, road signs) on the road.
To activate the new autopilot you will need to confirm the installation of the appropriate software. Refinement of the system will be based on the data collected from all Tesla cars with the function of the new autopilot.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to install a novelty on already sold or assembled cars. As Musk himself stated, the cost of the upgrade works exceeds the cost of the new Tesla car:
Should mention that it is very difficult. Cost delta is more than buying a new car. Wish it weren't.
Tesla Motors is not the only player in the market of robotic vehicles. Google, Uber and Lyft taxi services lead the way. In Russia, the development of unmanned vehicles involved in "KAMAZ" together with the company "Yandex" , potentially, they can join AvtoVAZ.
