PS3 pulls the blu-ray format

According to a report by the Entertainment Merchants Association, the PS3 console is "the main driving force behind the Blu-ray format, due to the fact that 87% of PS3 owners don't miss the opportunity to watch Blu-Ray on the console."

With 3 million consoles sold at the end of 2007, the PS3 successfully pulled out of the fight against the Xbox360 console and its optional HD-DVD drive for watching movies, which sold 316,000 pieces.

According to the EMA, the Blu-ray format lost the format war in 2006, and only thanks to the PS3 in 2007 was it possible to take revenge, which resulted in victory.
Now, the Association dares to say that the Sony console will become “the main force for advancing the format until 2009, when home Blu-ray players can match the number of devices sold with the game console.”
