Molekule PECO air purifier will destroy allergens in the home or office

Molekule, which developed the PECO air purifier , claims that its system is superior to traditional high-quality HEPA filters in terms of purification. The very name of the filter is an abbreviation of the English term "photoelectrochemical oxidation" (photoelectrochemical oxidation).

The developers say that PECO can cope not only with pollutants and allergens, but also with harmful viruses and bacteria. That is, the system also performs disinfection of the room. The device emits a light activating filter with a special coating, as a result of which the catalytic oxidation reaction begins. This process decomposes chemical compounds at the molecular level, destroying the basic components of the compound.

Since the filter doesn’t actually catch particles, but destroys them, PECO can eliminate particles of matter 1000 times smaller than in the case of HEPA filters.



The effectiveness of the filter is proven by a study at the University of Minnesota, whose participants showed that PECA can destroy volatile chemical compounds and mold.



A second study by the University of South Florida confirmed the results of the first. PECO has also been shown to be effective against vapors of acetone, toluene, the causative agent of infectious diseases E. coli, staphylococci, and black mold. For two minutes, the device is able to decompose into its constituent parts (water, carbon dioxide and molecular nitrogen) 3.9 million E. Coli bacteria.



A team of US scientists worked on the creation of PECA, some of whom were the founders of the Molekule company. But, of course, in order for the efficiency of the new air purification system to be confirmed, additional research is required.
