France plans to stimulate the development of cheap electric cars

At the UN Climate Change Conference, French Environment Minister Segolene Royal announced plans to develop a cheap electric vehicle. The cost of it, according to the minister, should be from $ 5,400 to $ 7,600. This is a fairly low price for any vehicle, in particular - for a “clean” electric vehicle. Usually a significant part of the cost of an electric vehicle is the battery.

In order to make an inexpensive electric car, the Minister proposes to create a rental / replacement battery scheme. Approximately according to this scheme comes the Taiwanese company - manufacturer of electric scooters Gogoro. The company began work this year, in Taipei, and is already planning to start work in other countries.

After buying a scooter, its owner can change the batteries in any of the automatic replacement points located throughout the city. This is done so that the driver does not waste time charging batteries at home or in the parking lot. In addition, the car is planned to be made small to save money on material. The vehicle will be intended for movement over short distances. Such an electric vehicle is not intended to be used as a family vehicle.

The Minister expects that the proposals and applications for the creation of such a car will start coming next year. Earlier, the head of Gogoro said that the scheme of work with the replacement of batteries proposed by the company can be used not only for scooters. And, most likely, this idea will really evolve.

Something similar was suggested earlier by Tesla Motors, promising the replacement time of a Tesla electric vehicle battery is 90 seconds or even less.

However, this technology has not become too popular. Even Musk admitted that replacing batteries was not found among users for a number of reasons . One of them - when replacing the battery, you must pay a certain amount. Plus, the “supercharging” companies are fast enough, so that owners of electric cars do not want to try something else. So, out of 200 people to whom Tesla sent an invitation to try out the possibility of replacing the battery, only 4-5 people responded. Yes, and they used the proposed option only once.
