The Israeli company Clipfort offered a cheaper and more versatile way to prevent the use of weapons for unwanted purposes. In contrast to the existing technological solutions , which are based on the installation of biometric sensors in the weapon itself, the engineers of the company offer to transfer them to the clip. Due to this, the Clipfort approach provides two serious advantages: on the one hand, the production of an "intelligent" clip will cost significantly lower than a "smart pistol" or a rifle. On the other hand, the clip can be used with existing weapon models.

Clipfort offers to equip the holder with biometric sensors that react to a fingerprint, the response rate of which is approximately 0.7 seconds. It is argued that the reliability of the solution is very high - the sensor correctly works 99,999 times out of 100,000 attempts. The cost of the clip from $ 150 to $ 200, and at the moment there are ready-made prototypes for pistols (such as the Austrian Glock), and for the American M16 automatic rifle.

Since Clipfort managed to get an investment of $ 2 million and began cooperation with the arms manufacturer Check-Mate Industries, the production of smart clips will begin next year. In this regard, Adam Winkler, the author of the book “Firefight: The Battle for the Right to Carry Arms in America”, suggested that the holder could be perceived by weapon lovers as a workaround to violate the Second Amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees American citizens the right to store and carry weapons.
