Last Friday, Tesla CEO Ilon Musk
gave an interview to Ronald Baron at a special conference for investors held in New York. The conversation touched on one of the foundations of the Mask business - electric batteries, for the production of which the company has a solid investment of $ 5 billion and intends to build in Nevada a huge “Gig factory”. Mask made it clear that his confidence in the success of this undertaking is very high and explained why he thinks so.
It turned out that Tesla is closely watching the players in the market who are capable of producing electric batteries. On the one hand, this is done in order to have a good idea of the balance of power and technology of competitors, and on the other hand, to classify possible future opponents on a certain conventional scale from “1” to “5”. According to Musk, now there are about 60 manufacturers of electric batteries in the world, and the results of some of them can be attributed to the long term.
If a competitor Tesla earned a rating of "5", in other words, its technological solution is at a high level, then Musk is ready to build a business together with him. If the manufacturer is marked with a rating of "1", then this is nonsense and there is nothing to worry about. Ilon Mask admitted that now he is ready to put a “troika” to some people, but it’s not a question of a “four” or “five” and thus it turns out that Tesla beats competitors on a purely technical level. True, it is possible that there is some kind of secret laboratory dealing with electric batteries, which owns a high-level technology and is unknown to Tesla. However, this situation seems unlikely to Ilona Mask due to the fact that his company is dominant in the market.
In late September, Musk made some loud predictions. According to him
, already in 2018, the Tesla cruising range will exceed 1000 km, and in 2020 - 1200 km. The electric car itself will be completely autonomous by this time. On October 9 of this year, Tesla released a firmware update that added the autopilot function and which the electric vehicle owners immediately began
testing , often ignoring safety requirements.
