Linden Lab has signed a contract with Vivox, and very soon in the virtual world of
Second Life it will be possible to communicate using voice, without resorting to the help of programs from third-party developers.
Available such luxury as voice communications will not be everywhere, but only in certain territories, but the owners of virtual islands will be able to enable this option on their own land.
The game will also involve the technology of three-dimensional sound company DiamondWare. Initially, the initiative will be beta-tested (which you can join by writing a request to 3dvoice@lindenlab.com), and in the second quarter of 2007, voice communication will become “official”.
