Google denies plans to abandon Chrome OS

Vice President of Android and ChromeOS, Hiroshi Lockheimer (Hiroshi Lockheimer) denies his company's plans to abandon Chrome OS in favor of Android. The fact that such a refusal exists in the plans of the search giant, with reference to informed sources, reported on Friday The Wall Street Journal. According to it, over the next few years, there should be a smooth change in Google’s policy regarding Chrome OS, as a result of which all the developments of the engineering team of the project will be implemented in Android, and the cloud system will continue to receive only technical support from the company.

Lockheimer says that Chrome OS has got its market and many devices from many manufacturers are tied to it. More than 30,000 chromed books are used in US schools, and this number is significantly higher than any other similar devices used in the educational process. In addition, more than 2 million people in more than 150 countries around the world somehow use Chrome OS. Also, the operating system has found itself in the corporate segment: it is used both in Google itself and in companies like Netflix, Sanmina and Starbucks. All this as a result does not allow to abandon plans for the development of Chrome OS, especially since chromabuki, and other devices on it, sell well.

As Chrome OS remains, Lockheimer revealed the company's plans for its development in the near future. There is already Chrome OS for laptops in the business segment recently released by Dell for $ 399. Pixelbook -type premium laptops have been available on Amazon since March of this year. Based on the App Runtime for Chrome mechanism, which was introduced on Google I / O in 2014, some popular Android applications such as Evernote, for example, could be launched on Chrome OS. Also, Google is currently working on several new applications for Chrome OS in the new Material Design, which should also have improved performance.
