What is missing in the Speed ​​Force cycle computer

There are a lot of bike computers and, it seems, nothing surprising in this respect for bikers. But a few days ago, at Indiegogo, I started funding a project of a similar device called the Speed ​​Force, which in just the first two days managed to raise more than $ 100,000, immediately exceeding the planned amount five times. What is special about it, let's understand.

The first key point - Speed ​​Force is structurally integrated into the bike, becoming one of the elements of the steering column:



As you can see, the Speed ​​Force case performs the function of steering wheel removal (landing under the steering wheel with a diameter of 31.8 mm, landing under a 28.6 mm fork - 1 inch), with a display and filling embedded in it. Diagonal color display - 1.6 inches, resolution 320x320. By the way, the case is waterproof according to the international standard IPX6.

The total weight of the kit, which, in addition to the cycling computer itself, includes two more sensors - cadence frequency and speed, plus a separate GSM module unit and a battery with a charging cable, is only 350 grams. Speed ​​Force case is made of aluminum series 6061.



In the project description, the developers state that the device passed 200,000 vibration and fall test cycles without degrading the operating parameters.

Installation on the steering column is quite simple, the only thing that we did not find how the sensors are attached to the pedal and the wheel. Obviously, this information is in the supplied manual.

Functional

The main function of the Speed ​​Force is parameter monitoring.



What is measured and recorded (data is stored for 180 days, discreteness - 1 minute):

• speed
• distance
• height difference
• route
• pedaling frequency
• power
• calories burned
• temperature
• pulse (need extra cardio tape)

The second function of the computer is data interpretation. When working on a program specified in the application, Speed ​​Force can perform the function of an online trainer, reporting the need to increase efforts, if necessary. Or vice versa, lower it - if the cardiovascular load threshold is exceeded.



Navigation

Speed ​​Force navigation system operates in two modes - “turn by turn” and “offroad”.



In the first case, you must have a smartphone with a navigation program, synchronization with the GPS module of the cycle computer via BLT. In the off-road mode, a smartphone is not needed, but on condition of pre-loading the route into the Speed ​​Force memory.

Synchronization

In addition to being used for navigation and as an online trainer, Speed ​​Force synchronization with a smartphone also performs a number of useful functions. First, it is informing about incoming calls and messages. Secondly, it develops socialization - it is supposed to increase the level of communication between cyclists through the Speed ​​Force application. New routes, new friends.
Thirdly, it is the ability to store and process travel data.



Lamp

Well, it is quite logical for the design to place a good flashlight in the Speed ​​Force building, the place is asking for it. What the developers, of course, did. Small but powerful (150 Lm) LED source from Cree Inc. beats on 9 meters.



The battery (1700 mAh, serving SpeedForce, works on a single charge for up to 40 hours, with the GPS module turned on - up to 16 hours. Some will be enough for a week for sure.
