Autonomous transport from Ilona Mask will replace buses and solve the problem with traffic jams

Ilon Musk, speaking at a conference on transport in Norway, promised to solve traffic problems in cities by creating a new autonomous vehicle for the transport of passengers. At the same time, the entrepreneur refused to go into the details of the project.

It turned out that in the depths of Tesla, an electric vehicle company, there is a secret development of a new type of transport that can solve the problem with city traffic. “Autonomous transport is the key to its solution,” said Musk. However, he refused to cover this topic.

“I fully agree that it is necessary to solve the problem with the saturation of cities with transport,” he added. “There is a new type of car, or vehicle, that can handle this perfectly, and that takes people to the end point of their journey, and not just to the bus stop.”

Judging by the poor description given by Mask, it is possible that we are talking about individual public vehicles — small autonomous electric vehicles that can automatically arrive at the call site, pick up a passenger, take him to the destination, and then return to the station. This scheme is consistent with the gradual acquisition of autonomous functions by Tesla cars.

Tesla electric cars, which are one of the main offspring of the Mask, already have, for example, such an opportunity as Summon. It allows the Model S to self- park in the garage or parking space at a distance of up to 12 meters, as well as independently leave the garage. The owner of the Model S just press the button on the key to activate the maneuver.

A new, slightly less expensive model, Tesla Model 3 , has already received more than 400,000 pre-orders, and for the opportunity to pre-order it, queues were lined up on the streets. What kind of autonomous capabilities it will have is unclear.
