Volkswagen will fix the exhaust of all its cars in Europe during 2016

The new general director of the Volkswagen concern, Matthias Müller, told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that a large-scale recall of European cars equipped with Volkswagen diesel engines will begin in January 2016. The company plans to make corrections to all cars before the end of next year.

The recall of cars is associated with an international scandal on the grounds of fraud with the results of testing two-liter diesel engines Volkswagen 2.0 TDi. In an effort to preserve the title of the manufacturer of the “most economical engine,” the concern went to modifying cars, allowing them to deceive test benches on which they measure the content in the exhaust of harmful substances. As a result, their content in the exhaust is several dozen times higher than that claimed.

After this information became publicly available, the concern’s general director resigned and the company lost more than $ 25 billion in stock value. Recalling and reworking cars (as it turned out, modifying engines was not limited to changing the on-board computer software) to deceive the test benches could cost the company $ 87 billion, according to some estimates.

American regulators, because of which this forgery was discovered, are concerned that while Muller said nothing about the recall and repair of cars sold in the United States. Of the 11 million cars around the world that need to be fixed, about 500,000 drive on the roads of North America.

Müller told the newspaper that due to unforeseen expenses, the board of directors had already frozen all non-core investments, and that this crisis had enabled the company to review and evaluate the existing structures of Volkswagen. It is not clear yet what state the company will be able to get out of this crisis, but the new director is optimistic about the future, and I am sure that his company does not need a “revolution”, but an “evolution” in order to regain the trust of customers. He also promised that the new engines with the corrected work will start coming out of the plants already in October .
