Vitaly Milonov suggested “freezing” the pages of dead people in social networks

The deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, Vitaly Milonov, proposed at the legislative level to settle the situation with accounts in social networks owned by dead people. This proposal he sent to the head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov.

Earlier we talked about "life after death" and the technical possibilities to influence the fate of their accounts after the death of a person.

Perhaps Vitaly Milon this time gave a good idea. Let's discuss.

You can write a will, leaving logins and passwords from each of your accounts in social networks and mail services. Social networks themselves offer technical capabilities like “testament accounts”.

In Facebook, you can select Settings => Security => Custodian in the upper right corner and set up contacts or choose to permanently delete your account. If you did not do this, then you will not be able to do anything with the page after death, that is, the relatives can no longer turn to Facebook and ask for “memorable status”. Google has the item “Google just in case” , here you can set a time limit after which the account will be called inactive, after which the system will either delete the account or transfer it to the previously added trustees. In LiveJournal, you can write a request to close your account or transfer it to a “memorial” status.

But, for example, in Odnoklassniki there is no such functional - and relatives have to seek, through a court, the removal or access to accounts of deceased relatives.

Vitaly Milonov proposed to make these technical capabilities mandatory for all social networks. In his opinion, the pages should be marked to avoid abuse - for example, hacking them for the purpose of fraud and spamming. Accounts need to be removed from the active search and allow relatives to completely hide the page.
